The men’s basketball tournament at Campbell University brought an exhilarating three days of intense competition among teams from Citadel University, North Carolina Central University, and Idaho State University. The tournament showcased the prowess of the Campbell Camels, captivating the audience with their remarkable basketball skills. As I attended all three days of the event, the arena buzzed with excitement and the spirit of friendly rivalry. Despite it being Thanksgiving break, the devoted fans who showed up savored every moment, cheering for their home team and indulging in the delectable offerings at the concession stands.
I spoke to the parents of a basketball player from CU and asked how they like being here on campus and they told me “This is amazing and we love the atmosphere here at Campbell”. Then I asked them “How do you feel about games on the holidays?” and they said, “As long as we are together and enjoying the company of one another it is fine by us, and seeing our son having fun playing the game he loves with the people he loves makes it a better feeling for us as parents”.
While the spectator turnout may have been impacted by the holiday break, the intimate atmosphere allowed those present to forge a stronger connection with the game. The dedication of the athletes from other universities did not go unnoticed, as they demonstrated commendable sportsmanship and skill on the court. The tournament served as a testament to the unity of collegiate basketball, with families traveling long distances to support their loved ones. Witnessing the camaraderie among players and the unwavering support from their families created a memorable experience that extended beyond the boundaries of the competition itself. The Campbell University arena echoed with the cheers of passionate fans, making the tournament a resounding success and a fitting celebration of the sport.
