Last Friday, Gore Arena experienced an energy unknown to Campbell University. The Campbell Fighting Campbell Football Team moved in masses to support fellow student-athletes in their big conference rivalry wrestling match against Appalachian State University. The Football Team showed out and packed Gore Arena and brought an infectious energy that helped propel the Camels to a huge conference victory. The arena was packed with signs made by students to support their Camels as well as taunt the App State Wrestling Team and its coaching staff.
The Campbell/App State wrestling rivalry has ran deep, with both teams being fierce competitors every year in the Southern Conference. Last year the Campbell Football Team journeyed to Boone to support the Wrestling Team as they took on App State in a devastating loss where they lost 22-14. This year things changed as the Campbell Football Team was sitting front row as their brothers on the Wrestling team got revenged in a 22-16 win.
Gore Arena erupted as the final whistle blew with fans and students storming the mat to hoist up members of the Fighting Camel Wrestling Team. Victory is great, but tasted even sweeter after a long awaited revenge match against our number one conference rival.
