After a week off, Campbell students are back in the Creek, but I can’t help but think about what spring break is like for middle schoolers and high schoolers. While it has been quite a few years since I was in high school, I still remember having spring break around late March or early April. Now in college, I’ve enjoyed spring break every first week of March for the past three years. Having a break is always sweet but which one do students prefer? I am here to give my take.
While in middle school and high school, my spring break was filled with March Madness basketball and often vacations to see family. Now in college, I spend most of my break resting up after the first month and a half of the spring semester. In fact, I’d rather stay home than go on an exotic vacation (but that’s just me). The academic rigor that college students experience is exponentially more intense than that of a high schooler. I agree with Campbell’s scheduling of our spring break. It helps students avoid getting too burnt out and marks the midway point of the semester. Our break is earlier because the semester ends a month before many high schools finish for the year. Personally, I love having an early break even if that means sacrificing warm spring weather vacations. I remember I was in Atlanta two years ago and it snowed (in March!). Another con of an early break is that I don’t have the same break as my little cousin, meaning I can’t join any family vacations they might plan. Many others may have siblings in this same situation and may end up missing out on vacations. However, it is worth the well-needed rest that comes with the “halftime” of the spring semester. Despite the time change, I’ve felt refreshed for the past week and a half. Additionally, I am very grateful that Campbell gave us a full week off. I’m sure there are schools out there that don’t do the same. It took a few years but now I enjoy the early spring break.
