Making a Stance

While the hype about the elections has died down, talk about politics never seems to hit a lull. With politics also comes the question, are you a Democrat or Republican? For some the answer is simple. They are one extreme or the other. However, some find themselves on a stance that is not quite either. A group of students found themselves wanting to be involved in politics, but they didn’t have many options– Republican or Democrat. To fix this problem and start something more in line with their stances, they started a Libertarians Club on campus.

“We started the club as a way to give students on campus another option when it comes to thinking about politics,” says Jacob Shires, founding member of the club.

Jacob goes on to explain where the club stands as a political party.

“We advocate the ideas of classical liberalism such as John Locke and small government, as well as personal responsibility of the individual. In essence, people should be able to live their lives as they see fit as long as they do not physically or economically harm another.”

Big plans are on the agenda starting with a bake sale tomorrow. The bake sale will be in Academic Circle if weather permits. If it is raining, then you can find them in Lundy for all sorts of homemade goodies.

If you are interested in learning more about what they are all about or joining the club, their first meeting is Feb. 4th in room 222 in D Rich. It will be at 6:30. Can’t make the meeting? Visit their Facebook page Campbell University College Libertarians or contact Jacob Shires at jlshires1023@email.campbell.edu for more information.
