student highlight: Katelynn powers

Katelynn Powers Class of ’22

Class Year: Senior

Major: Kinesiology with a Pre-Medicine track

What are some clubs or activities that I am involved in on campus?

“I am in Sigma Alpha Omega, Pre-Med Allied Health Honor Society, and I am the President of Pre-SOMA. I also work for Campus Recreation as a Fitness Ambassador and at Creek Coffee as a Barista.”

Something I’m excited about for this semester/year:

“I am really excited to be stepping into the role as President for Pre-SOMA and working with my board of officers to plan events for our members to attend – both virtually and in-person – throughout the rest of the school year! We have some big plans for partnering with people from graduate programs here at Campbell to help forge connections between our undergraduate students and students pursuing various graduate medical degrees! I am very excited to help other students network and form connections that may be benefit in the future!”

Something I’m proud that I have accomplished:

“Throughout the past couple of semesters here at Campbell, I have worked with professors both in the Exercise Science department and Biology department on research! I am very interested in the immune system and what contributes to its optimal function, so I have been researching the role Vitamin D Deficiency plays in inhibiting immune function in the body. I have also been able to present this research in the Academic Symposium!”
