Jonathan Overton
Area Coordinator | Residence Life and Housing
- Where did you graduate from and what is your degree in? (Undergraduate and Graduate)
- “I graduated from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I have both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in psychology! I always knew that professionally I wanted to “be in the business of people” and what better way to do that than study psychology? “
- How many years have you worked in Residence Life? Please also provide any roles that you have served in at previous institutions.
- “This is technically my fourth year overall working in Residence Life. When I attended Regent as a student, I was an RA for 2 years, and then an RD for my third year. Now at Campbell, I serve as an Area Coordinator. “
- When did you arrive at Campbell?
- “I started working at Campbell in my current role this past June, but I have grown up visiting this campus many times. My parents both attended Campbell and actually met here! So, I like to say, if there was no Campbell University, there would be no “me.”
- Please describe your role as Area Coordinator.
- “At Campbell, I work as the Area Coordinator in Residence Life & Housing. This means that I am responsible for staff supervision and development, residential education, community development and support, residential conduct, programming and other management. It is quite the packed role!”
- What is the biggest difference between your role as Area Coordinator than what was previously known as the Resident Director?
- “I think the biggest difference in the Area Coordinator position compared to the Resident Director role is that not only do I serve as a full-time employee of the University, but I also supervise other supervisors! One of my primary roles is to supervise our LCA staff who supervise our CAs, which I have enjoyed being able to do and see our amazing staff grow and lead.”
- What is your favorite thing about Campbell?
- “My favorite thing about Campbell is how nice and genuine everyone is! I remember the day I came for my interview and was immediately struck by the kindness of everyone on campus.”
- If there was one piece of advice that you could offer to the residents on campus, what would it be?
- “Get involved! I know my college experience was transformed by involving myself in clubs and organizations on campus. Not only is it a good way to make friends, but it is also a phenomenal way to get early leadership experience which will pay off after graduation. I always say college is what you make it, so make it extraordinary!”
