In the first week of April, CU ROTC Students spent the day at the site of the Battle of Bentonville historical driving tour. The whole trip is part of the planned schedule of ROTC cadets and was taught by all the schools present at the trip. The point of the staff ride is for officers to learn all aspects of a battle and to learn the history of the battle. To learn the past is to not repeat it. The battlefield remains an important landmark in the history of North Carolina and the United States as a decisive victory in the outcome of the Civil War. The ROTC students learned that the battlefield is not just about strategy but also about moral and ethical qualms that officers have to make decisions that can cost lives.
