Tips for Tuesday: Last-Minute Halloween Costumes You Can Make From Your Dorm Room

Sophia Pineda

Halloween is Saturday, and if you’re like most of us, you haven’t planned a costume yet. Don’t panic. You don’t need a trip to the store or a big budget. Everything you need is probably already in your closet, your desk drawer, or your roommate’s side of the room (ask first).

Here are seven costumes you can throw together before the weekend.

1. The Lumberjack

Grab a flannel, jeans, and boots. Roll up your sleeves, draw on a little beard with eyeliner if you want, and carry a mug of coffee for the full effect. Easy, cozy, and perfect for chilly Buies Creek nights.

2. The Classic Ghost

An old white sheet or a white T-shirt with two black eyes drawn on is all it takes. Simple, but nobody can say you didn’t dress up.

3. Biggest Camels Fan

Throw on every piece of orange and black Campbell gear you own. Add face paint, a foam finger if you have one, and cheer at random moments. Bonus points if you watch the football game Saturday in full costume.

4. Cardboard Box Anything

Hit the mailroom recycling bin and turn a box into a robot, a vending machine, or a giant cereal box. A few markers and some creativity go a long way.

5. “Tired College Student”

Pajama pants, a hoodie, messy bun, a stack of textbooks, and a big energy drink. Honestly? It’s not even a costume this time of semester.

6. A Pun Costume

Tape paper bags all over yourself and you’re a “bag lady.” Wear all black with a number one on your shirt and you’re “one in a million.” Pun costumes are cheap and always get a laugh.

7. The Twin Costume

Grab your roommate or best friend and pick two things that go together: salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, or a plug and an outlet. Matching shirts and a marker are all you need.

However you celebrate this weekend, we want to see it. Tag the Pine Burr in your costume photos for a chance to be featured on the blog and maybe even in the yearbook!

Happy Halloween, Camels!

For the featured image, a photo of a costume you or a friend puts together tonight would work great. If you don’t have one, a fall photo from campus is a good backup.
